New Phone, Blackberry Pearl

Well I finally got around to getting a new phone. I was playing around with a Blackjack and really liked it, so I went to the Cingular store and found the Blackberry Pearl which is even better.

Blackberry Pearl

I’ve only had it for two days and I’m still not used to the QWERTY keyboard yet, but here’s some of the things I like about it:

  • Push email works with gmail. I always thought you needed an exchange server to use blackberry’s push email but all I had to do was type in my username and password and it worked.
  • Syncs well with my mac. I’m using PocketMac to sync it with my Address Book and iCal and I haven’t had any problems.
  • Opera Mini is a great browser! Didn’t come with the phone but was an easy download.
  • Charges via USB, and uses the same cable as my camera. This way I’ll never have to worry about leaving my charger somewhere - I can always charge it with my laptop.
  • The phone looks awesome. It’s smaller than my last phone and the OS looks great.

If I had to choose between this phone and the iPhone right now, I think I’d stick with this phone. Two years from now when I’m ready to upgrade again and the iPhone 2.0 is out I might reconsider.
